Now that life has finally settled down a bit, and we are finding ourselves in a nice little routine, I figured it was time to post an update.
So what does life look like lately?
Riley is an excellent sleeper so far, (knocking on all the wood). She is mostly sleeping in a 5 hour stretch followed by a 3-4 hour stretch during the night. So I'm feeling pretty well rested. During the day she is nursing every three hours for about 15-20 minutes, and is awake for an additional 30ish minutes after a feeding, followed by a typical two hour nap. She prefers sleeping on her back. We had her in the family
bassinet for a few weeks, in the rock and play on and off for a week or
two, and then we just jumped and moved her over to her crib at 5 weeks.
She's been doing great so far! We're all getting good sleep as her
grunts and noises don't really wake us as easily and they were. She sure
is noisy as she sleeps.
At her one month check up, Riley was 10lbs 13.5oz, and 23.25 inches long! Baby girl is sadly all out of newborn clothes, and slowly growing through size 0-3. She fits best in size 3M for length, but everywhere else is a bit baggy on her.
Breastfeeding is going great. The begining was a wreck, I'll explain more of that later, but once we got through the first week, we got the hang of it and haven't looked back. I'm going to start pumping this week so I can slowly build up a stash. And I'd like to get her on a bottle once a day or every other day to make sure she will take one.
She is now giving smiles and has started cooing! Melt my heart. Just when I don't think I could love her any more, my heart bursts. Becoming a mother is with out a doubt the best thing in life.
